Airborne with Ease
Even the pros often choose the hybrid golf club when they need to hit long and straight from the fairway. The distance outperforms the long iron, and the accuracy beats the fairway wood. For recreational golfers, getting the ball airborne with a consistent and straight trajectory is the primary goal.
The center of gravity (CG) height location is purposely placed very low through strategic weight distribution near the sole. This lowers the club head's center of gravity below the ball's center of gravity on impact, which in turn promotes the higher launch angle and trajectory. The low profile of the RX hybrid keeps the CG of the club well below that of the ball.
Forgiveness
The center of gravity depth location is also an important parameter that requires careful and intentional placement. The CG projects itself at the face of the club through a defined projection angle. Striking the ball at a point on the face that is perfectly aligned with the CG axis is the ideal shot – maximum energy transfer from club head to the ball. But hitting on any part of the projected CG on the face is also an efficient impact. Impact outside the projected CG area on the face (towards the heel or toe) leads to twisting of the head and ball.
Moving the CG deep into the head yields the largest CG projection towards the face.
This CG placement yields a higher moment of inertia, or greater forgiveness on off-center shots. Since the projection angle exposes a larger area on the face to the projected CG, impact does not have to be dead-center for minimal twisting of the head and ball.
Placing the CG deep inside the head away is done again through weight distribution. A thicker wall of 431 Stainless Steel is positioned towards the rear of the club. This perimeter weighting moves the CG depth as far away from the face as possible.
